Located in the Kellotorni (Clock Tower) of Helsinki Central Railway Station, Olympiasali was acoustically improved using Ewona acoustic products. Olympiasali is a striking and historically valuable event venue where unique architecture meets modern event technology.

When Maritta and Antti Osterberg were designing their new home in Kokkola, Finland, one thing quickly became one of their top priorities: creating a calm and pleasant sound environment. In modern homes, large glass surfaces, high ceilings, and hard materials easily create echo and reverberation, which they knew would significantly affect everyday living comfort.

The Finnish lighting manufacturer Innolux carried out a major investment in 2024–2025 by building two new halls in Kerava. The new logistics and storage centre offers efficient facilities for the company’s growth — and its structures rely on Ewona’s insulation material: allergen-safe Ewonawool, made from recycled material.

Kino Konepaja is an atmospheric cinema that opened in September 2024 at the Vallilan Konepaja. The building, which used to be a depot where trains were painted, has been transformed into a comfortable lounge area and a reference-class cinema hall in collaboration with a number of professionals. Arkmill, who designed Orimattila’s new swimming and exercise hall, wanted to create a sustainable and safe building complex to replace the old one.

Architect Tapio Antikainen, who specialises in the design of swimming pools, has been using Ewona’s products for more than a decade. In Vantaa, the indoor air problems of the Ristipuro daycare escalated into symptoms, so the building was to be modified to ensure the health and safety of the children and staff. The daycare has eight early childhood education and preschool groups. The property was built in 1987, with an annexe that was completed in 2000.

The main building underwent a comprehensive surface humidity survey and refined humidity measurements in 2020. Based on the humidity survey, the base floor structure was dry, but air leakage compromising the indoor air quality was detected from underneath the base floor in the tracer tests. The Saimaanportti comprehensive school in Mikkeli is a new construction project where a new school building will be built on the site of the demolished Urpola school. The new school will house grades 1–9 of the comprehensive school as well as special education facilities for the same grade levels.

Billed as a multi-purpose building, it also includes sports facilities such as a gym and fitness centre, as well as outdoor playing fields and outdoor playgrounds which serve as an exercise area for the locals in the evenings and at weekends. Youth services, an after-school club and a community college will also be located in the multi-purpose building. The school’s facilities are also suitable for a variety of evening and weekend activities.

Savonlinna’s new main health centre was completed in April 2022. The new health centre contrasts perfectly with the cramped and dim spaces that were typically built in the 1980s. Riitta Pikkuhookana, interior architect at Reino Koivula Oy, is the architect behind the interior solutions and material choices- According to her, the themes and visual appearance of Savonlinna’s main health centre are strongly based on local culture and the surrounding nature. The geography and local character of East Savo has also been taken into account in the naming of the floors, which bear the names of the local cities and towns in the Sosteri Hospital District.

No building is going to last forever – this fact has also been recognised in building design, where many different types of demolition have been carried out in recent years, resulting in a huge amount of waste that is sometimes difficult to deal with. The Harjavalta sports and swimming hall, completed in 2013, was deliberately designed with acoustic solutions to create a pleasant sound environment. Due to the characteristics of the space, a material was required that would not trap moisture and would not be susceptible to mould, but would withstand the hard use and impacts typical of a sports facility.

In 2013, the Finnish lighting solutions provider Greenled pulled a stunt that amazed many. The company moved its entire production from the Far East to Finland at a time when many were doing just the opposite.

“The trip to Asia was a worthwhile experiment because it taught us what is most important: customer-oriented, domestic, sustainable manufacturing and products,” said Pertti Tahvanainen, CEO of Greenled. “We have never regretted bringing production back to Finland.”

The renovation of the Meritori school in Kivenlahti, Espoo, was completed in December 2020. The wave-shaped ceiling of the gym was given a new look with Ewona’s solid black acoustic panels.

The most important goal in the planning of the Meritori school was to create a healthy environment for children and young people.
