Modern acoustic solutions for the historically significant Olympiasali
Located in the Kellotorni (Clock Tower) of Helsinki Central Railway Station, Olympiasali was acoustically improved using Ewona acoustic products. Olympiasali is a striking and historically valuable event venue where unique architecture meets modern event technology.
The hall is part of the Helsinki Central Railway Station designed by Eliel Saarinen — one of Finland’s most iconic buildings. An acoustic solution implemented in such a historic environment required exceptional attention to detail both technically and visually.
The high vaulted ceiling, large open surfaces, and the proportions of the space created acoustic challenges for events, seminars, and celebrations. The goal was to improve the acoustic environment without compromising the original atmosphere or architectural character of the building.
A striking ceiling installation as part of the architecture
For Olympiasali, a visually impressive suspended acoustic installation was designed to function both as an acoustic solution and as an architectural feature within the space.
The black, custom-cut, geometrically arranged Premium Max acoustic elements create a modern contrast against the hall’s light architecture while blending seamlessly with the venue’s event technology structures.
Additional acoustic solutions included:
- Ewona Wool 100 mm sound absorption solution installed beneath the stage
- custom enclosures using Premium + acoustic panels printed to match the venue’s colour scheme
Particular attention was given to preserving the protected historical environment and the original architecture of the space throughout the design process.
